Swvl Kenya introduces long-distance travel service

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 11- Swvl Kenya has started the deployment of a new innovation that will allow commuters to use the platform for long distance travel in Kenya, as part of their travel service.

The new service will offer commuters the ability to book and pay for their trips within the country to more than 12 destinations, including Naivasha, Nakuru, Molo, Eldoret, Narok, Bomet, Kericho, Kisii, Kisumu, Nyeri, Nanyuki and Machakos via the Swvl app.

The company will begin to partner exclusively with Matatu’s SACCOs and existing operators that ply long-distance routes across the country.

The innovation is in line with Swvl’s strategic approach to providing commuters with safe and frictionless, technology-based journeys.

“We are constantly innovating to ensure that Kenyan commuters provide them with safe and technological commutes that make it easier for them to travel. We are looking to make it easier for Kenyans to travel within the country, especially as we approach the holiday season next month. It is this desire that prompted us to partner with matatu saccos who already provide this service and help them streamline the process of filling their vehicles by offering them a digital platform ”, said Dip Patel, Managing Director from Swvl in Kenya.

The service will be accessible to all commuters through the Swvl app and users can pre-book their trips in the same way as their regular Swvl trips in Nairobi.

Patel said the rides will operate at fixed times and prices, adding that the service will be rolled out gradually in the coming weeks.

Long-distance travel operators who wish to operate on the app must also continue to be integrated.
